Do I look like them???

People won’t notice the differences when we are living in the country whose culture is almost similar to ours. Only few people will find out the differences since we have almost similar language, culture and physical appearance, etc. That’s why, almost all of people whom I met thought that I’m Bruneian. Here are the evidences:
One of my classmates asked, “Do you have last week’s module?”
“Sorry, I don’t have. I’m new here.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, I’m from Indonesia.”
“Aah, I think you are Bruneian”
Next, on the way to the faculty, someone greet me and asked, “Are you local?”
“No.”
“Where do you come from?”
“Indonesia. Why?”
“I knew you in the library last week. It seemed that you need a help to operate the machine. I wanted to help you, but I thought you were local so I didn’t do that!”
A girl in the club also said the same thing.
“What major do you take?”
“Linguistics.”
“Malay lingustics?”
“No, I can’t speak Malay. It’s English linguistics.”
“Why do you can’t?”
“I’m Indonesian.”
“Ooh, I think you are Bruneian”
Then, in a bus, a woman spoke Malay to me. *maybe she also thought that I’m Bruneian* After that, she laughed. I didn’t know what she was talking about, but I laughed, too *to appreciate her, hehe…* Yet, she noticed that I didn’t really know what I laughed for. Thus, she said in Malay language “Can you speak Malay?”
“No, I can’t.” I answered in English.
So, she switched to English and repeated what she was talked before.
However, some people found out that we were not Bruneian. When I spoke to the seller in the cafeteria, she talked in Indonesia language, “You are Indonesian, right? Your accent is noticeable. I’m also Indonesian” The driver of the bus who is Indonesian also noticed it. He spoke to me in Indonesian, “You are Indonesian, right?”
Also, another classmate said “No wonder” when I told her that I’m Indonesian.
Besides, when we went hiking, a Bruneian man can exactly guess our nationality in a glance. He knew that my friends came from certain countries.
“…and you, you came from Indonesia.” He said to my Indonesian friend.
“How do you know?”
“There is a big “I” in your T-shirt. “I” = Indonesian” *It’s just a parable. In fact, there is no “I” or “Indonesian” written in his T-shirt*
